ABOUT Monica
Monica Brennan is the second eldest of 10 children. She began running at 6 years old and didn't lose a race for the next 7 years.
She has won over 60 State and National sprint titles. Monica has finished either first or second in the National 200 meters for her age group for the last 8 years.
As an eleven year old, Monica broke Cathy Freeman's 200 meter Pacific School Games record which had stood for 20 years.
In recent times Monica has competed for Australia in both the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and the World Youth Championships in Lille, France. In the Youth Olympics Monica made the final by running a pb of 24.69 in her heat. She finished 8th in the final. In the World Youth Championships Monica ran a sensational 23.78 in her semi final to make the final. This time was faster than Sally Pearson's time in 2003 which was the previous best by an Australian. She finished as the 7th fastest girl in the World in the final.
Last season Monica was the fastest woman in Victoria winning the Vic Open 200 in 24.04. She went on to finish 4th in the Open Nationals.
This season Monica is aiming to do even better, and with it being an Olympic year, who knows where she could end up.
